US Charge d' affaires pays courtesy call on President Granger

The United States (US) Charge d’ affaires, Bryan Hunt in offering his congratulations to Guyana’s 8th Executive President, His Excellency David Arthur Granger, said the US is looking forward to strengthening bilateral relations. Hunt paid a courtesy call on the Head of State at the Presidential complex today. During the meeting, Hunt said several areas in which the United States has had long cooperation with Guyana were discussed. Some of these include security issues, which fall under the Caribbean Basin Security Initiative (CBSI), and the US’ work with the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment through the Energy Governance Capacity Initiatives.According to the Charge d’Affaires other issues under the Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (EITI) were also discussed while the US will be charting out how to work collectively to strengthen bilateral relationships. With the 2015 general and regional election being the last project under the Leadership and Democracy (LEAD) project, Hunt said the US, through its embassy will be exploring ways in which they can continue to work with Guyana to strengthen democracy and governance, with the new administration.
